Recipe and thoughts

I am enjoying "Loving Frank;" her writing style is amazingly easy to read and I love the little tidbits she puts into the story to make it feel factual even though it's fiction. I am finding it hard too ... I just finished the part where she leaves her children in Boulder for her husband to pick them up ... and I paged ahead and know there's some awkward, painful, and real stuff to wade through. To think it all really happened, alongside a man we know so well as an artist.

Nicole this is a good pick. We will really have a lot to discuss next time we get together. I almost wish I hadn't started yet. Maybe I'll have to hold my thoughts here on the blog for reference. Or maybe I'll read it again. The writing pulls me along so quickly that I haven't had time to mark the passages I find beautiful.

Sarah's Key, Tatiana DeRosnay

Hi ladies, I just finished Sarah's Key. I found that I wanted to plow through the book - first because I wanted to find out what happened to the brother, Michel, and then just to stop having to read about the children who had to stay at the Vel d'Hiv.

Becky and Merri: this is a book that I ran across last time I was picking a book for The Slots. I knew it was liable to be a kind of a tough read, but I found that I was kind of haunted by the premise of the book and needed to understand more ... and wondered how the author would resolve the story line. So it was an easy selection this month.

I am interested to talk with my mom about this historical event in Paris - I wonder how much she knows about it. It's probably not something she would talk with her students about, but even after having lived there and being so interested in the context of France, I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't know.

In all, I enjoyed the book. It reads fast, and that's good. I do find that the end of the book is a bit slower, and I am looking forward to talking about all of it with you.

I wanted to let you know that books are on your way. I chose “The marriage bureau for rich people” I think it is a very light easy read, I enjoyed it and I hope you do too.
You are getting my book and not Molly’s because I had already purchased the books and we figured out that next month at least Nicole, Molly, Kim and I will be out of town. Of course, Becky and Cheryl, you can always meet, but we thought a nice summer break seem good. So we will meet at my house in September to talk about this book. I think Molly will choose next…

I'm looking forward to the Book Slots this week. Kimberlee, since you aren't feeling 100% - at least not every day, is there anything we can do to make hosting easier for you?

Can't wait to discuss Gilead. Finding "There Is A Balm In Gilead" after the conclusion of the book was very ... good. I love the word balm.
